****************

Material:Paper
No of Folios:Bound into the volume between parts 10 and 12; 80 leaves, of which text is on folios 1-79
Pagination:Earlier pencil foliation in upper outer corners, every fifth folio, counting all in Kk.1.3, so f17 has '335' but then crossed through. Modern pencil foliation same place, under the previous one, on every leaf recto, 1-80.
Quiring:8s
Signatures:Modern signatures in pencil, lower outer corner recto first half of each quire, beginning a.1 on f1.
Catchwords:By the scribe, centred bottom of last folio verso, several words long.
Page Size:285 x 222
Frame:Plain square with lines to edges of page, not ruled, in dry-point since hardly shows at all now.
Writing Space:205 x c. 120 frame; lines c. 100 long
Incipits and Explicits:Note no lines left between stanzas. Rubric 'Deo Gracias' at end on f79.
Marginal Headings:Rubric heading at top of f1 'H[ere be]ginneth a tretise wiche is callid' ..... but the title was not filled in until much later; thereafter spaces left for 2-line initials often not filled in, though see 4-line plain blue lombard on f30. Rubric headings throughout.
Running Titles:Looks as if there were rubric running titles, now illegible due to damage from damp to tops of all leaves in this part. Nearer first half some running titles seem completely lost and a later hand in black ink adds them over the water-damaged paper.
Title by Scribe:After intro in rubric on f1 title added by 16th(?) c hand, 'a vieti(?) of the mutabilitie of the worlde'.
Paragraph Marks:Indentation before first line of every stanza as if for paraphs not filled in.
Flourished Initials:f1, 8-line blue initial with red penwork flourishing, including elaborate red foliage patterns for ground.
Other Names (not owners):Owned by William Middleton (as were parts 10 and 12): see initials on f79r below end of writing. Seymour writes that 1-14, 21 and 22 of this volume sometime formed one volume (MS Holdsworth 12) 'when in the library of William Holdsworth, master of Emmanuel College (d. 1649), passed to the University in 1664' (Seymour page 282). Seymour notes that William Middleton's initials also on f2 of part 10 and f18v of part 12, so all must have belonged to Middleton at one time, possibly bound together. Seymour notes 'There is no sign of Thorney's ownership in this Cambridge volume, but part 4 was written by John Stow' (Seymour, p. 282)
Miscellaneous Info:Watermarks, according to Seymour (282): tete de boeuf with star as Briquet 15089. He notes watermark of part X (Lydgate's Life of Our Lady) is tete de boeuf with star, and basilisk (Briquet 15089 and 2691); and watermark of part XII (3 Kings of Cologne) is Paschal Lamb, Briquet 23-4.
